Signs that Your Driveway Needs to Be Replaced

If you're noticing that your driveway is cracking, crumbling, sinking, or in any other state of disrepair, it's likely time to replace it. Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing throughout the year (especially with extreme Connecticut weather) can cause asphalt driveways to shift and move, leading to uneven surfaces and cracks. Asphalt driveways also tend to wear out over time as they become exposed to the elements like cold temperatures and extreme heat. If left unchecked, those cracks can worsen and spread across the entire asphalt surface. Additionally, oil spills and gas stains can penetrate an aging asphalt driveway making it difficult to remove without needing a replacement.

What Should You Do if You Need Your Driveway Replaced?

It's important to act quickly if you notice any signs of damage on your driveway as small issues can quickly turn into bigger problems if left unresolved for too long. The team at Marini Paving LLC uses high quality materials for all our jobs so that you won't have to worry about replacing your driveway anytime soon. This includes at least 3 inches of asphalt and 6 to 8 inches of processed base material to increase the durability and longevity of the new driveway.

How Our Driveway Replacement Process Works

So if you're looking to replace your old or damaged driveway, call Marini Paving LLC today to get started on your free estimate. Our process starts with a free estimate where the owner of the company will evaluate your driveway's condition and provide you with all available options. After that, our workers will begin preparation by removing any old asphalt and debris with state of the art equipment and machines. One your driveway is removed, we dump the old materials, install new foundation in the form of base material. The base material can include crushed stones, gravel and other materials as needed. Once the base material is installed and compacted properly, we'll bring our equipment for paving your new driveway.

Our crew will handle all the finishing touches like grading, edging off borders, and ensuring that your drainage system works properly. The last step is to roll the asphalt with a roller machine to ensure a smooth finish. At Marini Paving LLC, you can always count on us for quality workmanship and durable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I choose Marini Paving LLC?

At Marini Paving LLC we take pride in our craftsmanship and we have 30+ years of experience. We use modernized equipment, heavy machinery, and make your driveway last for years to come. For example, we use large vibratory rollers for maximized base compaction during the driveway prep phase.

After we distribute asphalt to your driveway with our paver, we use a special plate compactor followed by another process using our vibratory roller so your driveway has the highest level of durability. Our company is family-owned and operated by the owner who will oversee your whole project from estimate to finish.

  • How can I snow plow a gravel driveway?

If you're snow plowing a gravel driveway, make sure the skid plate (or shoe) is adjusted up. The skid plate should be as high as possible without scraping the driveway itself. This helps to minimize displacement of gravel and damage to the driveway.

  • What is driveway prepping?

Driveway prepping is the process of preparing the area for paving. This includes removing any existing asphalt, compacting the soil, and leveling out an even base before paving can take place. It is important to ensure that a proper driveway sub-base has been created in order for your driveway to last as long as possible.

  • Can I park my car on a removed driveway after it's been prepped?

Yes! You can park your car on the driveway after prepping. Sometimes we will prep your driveway one day, and come back the following day to pave it.

While your driveway is prepped, we will compact quality base material as a foundation. You can safely park your vehicle on the prepped and removed driveway until we are ready to pave it.

  • Are there any additional charges for driveway prepping?

Sometimes this may be true. Once in a while, we find clay material or find that the existing base material is not suitable for paving. In these cases, we may need to haul in additional material and adjust the cost accordingly. Clay material does not compact well and will eventually sink underneath, leaving a void in your driveway.

We conduct compression tests to make sure your prepared driveway has an adequate  foundation so it will hold strong after paving. We will always inform you ahead of time if this is the case because we believe in honest contracting and quality work without shady practices!

  • How long does asphalt last?

Asphalt pavement that is installed properly and well maintained can last up to 20 years or more. Factors such as the climate in your area, traffic volume, and proper maintenance all contribute to how long your driveway will last.
